Our Residences
The agency currently owns two homes:
Shalom House opened in September 2001 and was the first Jewish group home for adults with disabilities established in Arizona.
Keshet House opened in May 2009.
There are three men who reside in each home. Since our agency owns the homes, we act as the property managers. Caregiver staff is provided through a private agency licensed by Arizona’s Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
The homes are located in quiet neighborhoods, within a five-mile radius of five synagogues, the Ina Levine Jewish Community Center, several shopping malls, movie theaters, a public library and a hospital. A bus stop two blocks away provides transportation for staff and residents.
The residents enjoy their homes and have really made them their own. Community activities in which residents participate include: Shabbat services and holiday celebrations at nearby synagogues, working out at the VOSJCC health club, volunteering at Jewish community events, and hosting adult social group gatherings. Our residents also participate in day programs and hold jobs where they go during the week.
Residential Resources
Since there is a need for additional quality housing options for individuals with special needs throughout the Valley, our agency is working to stay relevant. Research is being done and plans are being discussed with the hope of opening another home in the next 2-5 years. For those with immediate housing needs, we will provide information about residential programs we know.
Moving out on their own is a big decision for both the individual and their family. Add the fact that our residents have various needs, and there are new situations to consider makes this a daunting step. Gesher Disability Resources can assist with this process by connecting families in similar situations, suggesting DDD transition services, and referring disability organizations throughout the Valley.
