Since 2009, February has been officially known as Jewish Disability Awareness & Inclusion Month (JDAIM), a unified effort among Jewish organizations to raise awareness, to foster inclusion of people with disabilities, and their families, in Jewish communities worldwide. It was thanks to a visionary group of professionals in the Jewish Special Education International Consortium, of which Gesher’s co-founder Becca Hornstein was a member.
Gesher has hosted speakers with disability connections sharing their stories for the past three years during our Annual Community Luncheon. While we are disappointed that we will not be able to host a 2021 luncheon, we are looking forward to some great online programming.
- JFNA (Jewish Federations of North America) has a month-long schedule of events, all designed to educate and equip you to help advance policy that empowers individuals with disabilities to achieve maximum independence. We encourage you to register for the entire event.
- Gesher ZOOM Room on Tuesday, February 9, will be focused on JDAIM talking with Gesher members why this month is important to them.
- Check out other events and quotes from Gesher members on the Gesher Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/gesherdisabilityresources
Learning about inclusion is always in fashion. Together, we foster an inclusive Jewish community that emphasizes the value, dignity and capabilities of each and every individual.
